June is Men’s Health Month

When was the last time you checked in on your health – really checked in?

June is Men’s Health Month, and it’s more than just a calendar note. It’s an important reminder: men in the U.S. live nearly six years less than women, often because serious health issues go unnoticed or untreated. The good news? Many of these risks can be reduced with small, consistent actions.

The Health Risks Men Can’t Afford to Ignore

Some of the biggest health challenges facing men today are also some of the most preventable:

Heart disease is a leading cause of death, with men at higher risk for heart attacks and strokes.

Cancer affects men at higher rates, with prostate cancer being a major concern—especially if it runs in your family.

Mental health often goes unspoken. Many men experience depression or anxiety, yet only a small number seek help

These aren’t just statistics. They’re reminders to pay attention before problems become serious.

SMALL HABITS, BIG IMPACT

Improving your health doesn’t require a complete lifestyle overhaul. It starts with simple choices:

Schedule the checkup you’ve been putting off
Routine screenings can catch issues early – when they’re easiest to treat.

Take care of your body every day
• Eat meals that include lean protein, whole grains, and vegetables
• Move your body for 30 minutes a day
• Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep
• Keep alcohol to no more than two drinks per day

Don’t ignore your mental health
Stress, anxiety, and depression are real and manageable. Talking to someone or practicing mindfulness can make a difference.

Stay connected
Strong relationships with friends and family aren’t just nice to have—they’re linked to better health and longer life.

This Month Is Your Starting Point

Men’s Health Month is a reminder to take an active role in your well-being. Whether it’s scheduling a checkup, making time for exercise, or reaching out for support, every step counts. Prevention truly is the best medicine.
